For years now I have aspired to become active in the art of animation, and I believe one of the first steps to doing this is joining a community that works with animation all the time. I believe Newgrounds is one of the best and most independant communities where I can begin.

I have the ideas. I lack the technology.

What I have-
A workhorse class laptop with a very good graphics card and a nice big screen. It also has a microphone and camera (the camera doesn't matter). HP, Windows Vista.
Flash Player version 9.0.124.0
Motivation and many ideas.

What I require-
Some sort of software which can design and play animation online through Flash
Sound recording software (I may already have this on my computer, but I'll need to do some digging).
Sound effects
A program that can create music and make it into usable sound files
Anything else I may need to do this!

hm..

Koolmoves flash tool

Goldwave sound editing tool

and i can send you sound FX, just tell me what kind you need, and how to send em.

Cool! Thanks!
I have recently learned that I must buy Flash, so I'll get to that first.
Where could I obtain Goldwaves?

Google, your eternal friend.

Flash is the best tool for animating, but if it's your first time animating, I recommend you to download the trial first. See if you REALLY like it, then buy it. Because it's actually a big ... investment? (sorry, no english).

In the mean time, there are a lot of FREE possibilities you can use; koolmoves being one of them. But I heard it's pretty lacking, considering you can't even save and load. I recommend you get sothink swf quicker, the trial lasts 15 days last time I checked. Then, get Macromedia Flash 8 (when it was still macromedia's) trial, 30 days. Then adobe Flash CS3, 30 more days. So you have plenty of time to try out. :D
: That is, assuming macromedia and adobe's registry editing is completely different.

For sound editing, goldwave is a good tool. But I personally prefer Audacity much more. Sound creating, FruityLoops can do the job.

If you have really good drawing skills but you find it hard to draw with a mouse, get a Graphic Tablet. Wacom ones are the best in the market, but they're quite pricey. I own a Genius one, works quite cool. I prefer the mouse though, now I think the tablet was a waste of money :P

You look like a good guy, keep up that motivation and try your best. :D

Also, for any software I listed here, Google is always good. :)

Sound effects, you can find them in google too; altough good Alternatives are

<a href="http://www.flashkit.com">http://www.flashkit.com</a>
<a href="http://www.altavista.com">http://www.altavista.com</a>

Google's your friend, use it, and good luck. :D

Thanks. I downloaded the trial version of Flash yesterday and it's going to take me a while to learn how to use it (maybe around... 30 days?), so hopefully I'll get somewhere with that demo before times out.

Thank you for the websites!

Adobe makes Flash CS3 Proffesional. When that guy said it was $300, it was a mistake. It is $700, unless you're a student, whereas it's $250. Flash is very good, but it takes longer to make better things, like, say, Blockhead and Salad Fingers. And since you're new to it, I doubt you know this (maybe you do) but to make games you have to learn something called ActionScript. ActionScript 2 is easiest, and there's many tutorials all around the internet, even here on NG, so don't worry.

However, I use something called SoThink SWF Quicker. It has ActionScript and is almost exactly the same as Adobe, but only $85. Try it for free or buy it from their site (google sothink swf quicker)

Hmmm... I may try the SoThink program once my 30 day trial of Flash runs out and compare them. I doubt I'll be using ActionScript any time soon, since right now I'm thinking more about animation than about games. But thank you for letting me know.

The koolmoves demo is endless, and lets you do everything except, add ALL included clipart, and save/load

it only costs $42

and its simple to use, probably one of the best i know of

I'll give it a try when my Flash demo runs out. Thank you for letting me know about it.
